PuXian Bodhisattva is a Buddhist Bodhisattva, the transliteration of his Sanskrit name
Samantabhadra, also translated as Universal Worthy Bodhisattva. PuXian Bodhisat
tva is one of the Four Great Bodhisattvas in Chinese Buddhism, symbolizing the prac
tice of moral and ethical perfection, and is often paired with Manjushri Bodhisattva, who
represents wisdom and the perfection of understanding. They are the attendants of
Shakyamuni Buddha on his left and right sides. In addition, Vairocana Buddha, Manjushri
Bodhisattva, and PuXian Bodhisattva are known as the "Three Holy Ones of the Huayan
School". In the Huayan Sutra, PuXian Bodhisattva encourages people to practice the ten
great vows, which include paying homage to all Buddhas, praising the Tathagata, making
offerings, repenting of one's sins, rejoicing in merit, requesting the turning of the Dharma
wheel, requesting the Buddha's continued presence in the world, constantly following the
Buddha's teachings, benefiting all beings, and dedicating all merit. PuXian Bodhisattva
considers these ten vows as the primary means of attaining the Buddha's merit.
Ga Zangben, the Tibetan ethnic group of China, was born in 1996 in Wutun Shangzhuang,
an artistic family in Tongren City, Qinghai Province. From a young age, he was exposed to
the art of painting under the guidance of his grandfather and father. He studied Thangka
painting under the guidance of his uncle Gedun Jinba, and at the age of 13, he became
a disciple of the Chinese master of arts and crafts, Gedun Daji, to learn the skills of
Thangka painting. After eight years of intensive study and practice, he received his master’s recognition in 2016 and began his career in Thangka painting. In order to constantly
improve his painting skills, he also studied Tibetan Buddhist clay sculpture with his father
Xia Wu. Due to his diligence and talent, he stood out among his peers, and continued to
deepen his learning and research. In 2014, he was honored with the title of State-level
Master of Folk Arts and Crafts in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In December 2019, he won the Silver Award in the Qinghai Province Thangka Artist’s Fine Thangka
