Ga Zangben Red Tang Bhais˙ ajyaguru (Medicine Buddha)
The artwork took two months to complete, with the artist chanting scriptures and pre
paring materials while painting. The piece uses traditional Tibetan mineral pigments, with
turquoise, red coral, and peacock stone as the main colors, complemented by precious
minerals such as pearl, agate, and cinnabar, as well as animal and plant pigments like saf
flower, rhubarb, and indigo. The painting is extremely delicate and detailed.
ajyaguru Guru, also known as Bhais
ajya-guru-vaidurya-prabha-raja, is a Buddha of
the Eastern Pure Land. He is also called the King of Medicine Buddha, the Master of Heal
ing or the Buddha of Healing. Originally, Bhais
ajyaguru was a metaphorical representation
of a doctor who could heal the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance. In Chinese
ajyaguru is often invoked to pray for good health and longevity. When he
achieved enlightenment, he made twelve vows to eradicate all sickness and suffering and
to bring peace and happiness to all beings. It is believed that devotion to Bhais
can heal all diseases, relieve pain and suffering, and extend life. Therefore, people from
all walks of life in China have a strong faith in Bhais
ajya Guru. In many large temples in
China, the Bhais
ajya Guru Buddha is often depicted in the main hall on the left side of the
Shakyamuni Buddha, representing the Eastern Pure Land of Vaidurya Light.
